FAQ: General Information
All pets or animals, excluding trained service dogs, are prohibited from travelling onboard Rocky Mountaineer. Please let us know when booking if you intend to bring a service dog on your journey. Service dogs travel free of charge onboard Rocky Mountaineer, provided they are able to remain at their owner’s feet or in an approved nearby space that does not in any way obscure or block any aisles or exits and does not intrude into another guest’s seating area.
The majority of Rocky Mountaineer guests are adults; however, we do welcome a small number of children each season. Children travelling with us must be old enough to safely sit on their own. Infants cannot be seated on their parent or guardian’s laps while onboard, and the seats on the train do not have seat belts for securing children’s car seats. Parents and guardians are responsible for the safety of their children while onboard the train, and must ensure children are under their direct supervision at all times. To give you a sense of the onboard experience, all guests are assigned a seat within one train dome with some limited space to move around. The SilverLeaf rail cars have a small outdoor space and the GoldLeaf rail cars have a larger outdoor viewing platform, where guests can view the passing scenery and capture photos. A typical travel day on the train can range from 10-12 hours on the Canadian routes and up to 8-9 hours on the US route. The onboard experience is very much about sitting back to enjoy the passing scenery, learning about the history of the regions through the storytelling from our onboard hosts, and enjoying a high-level of culinary and beverage service. Please note WiFi is not available while onboard.

We are not able to assist in flight reservations. Any flights will need to be booked independently.
Rail travel in North America is occasionally subject to unforeseen delays. For that reason, if your package does not already include accommodation at the end of your journey please do not arrange connecting transportation, including flights, on this day. Rocky Mountaineer can arrange airport transfers at the start or end of your rail journey with advance notice.
We do not have a special price for children. Every guest on the train, regardless of age, pays the same price for their seat and onboard experience. Children travelling with us must be old enough to safely sit on their own.

To ensure the preservation of the fragile environment of the areas in which we travel and for the comfort of all guests, there is a no smoking or vaping policy of any kind including cigarettes, cannabis, cigars, and e-cigarettes onboard Rocky Mountaineer, including vestibules, restrooms, inside the station, on the platforms or near the tracks. There is also no smoking in hotel rooms. We recommend that you prepare for the journey accordingly.
There are many unique features to rail travel. You will enjoy an extremely comfortable seat with ample legroom and have the freedom to stretch your legs and enjoy the fresh air while in the vestibules. Combined with attentive service and outstanding storytelling, this type of leisurely paced travel will ensure that you know you are on vacation.
One of the greatest advantages, however, is the ability to travel through areas simply not accessible by foot, car or motorcoach. The routes we travel on are described as engineering marvels and as we follow rushing rivers, pass beside towering waterfalls and ride through spectacular river canyons, you will understand why. To truly appreciate the nature and scenery in this part of the world, the Rocky Mountaineer offers the very best vantage point.
