Embarking on a Rocky Mountaineer journey is about more than just traversing physical landscapes; it's an exploration of the heart and soul. In this blog series, we delve into the experiences of diverse travellers celebrating different milestones, accomplishments, and special occasions onboard our train. From snowy peaks, to bustling city streets, our guests share laughter, tears, and transformative moments that leave them with lifelong memories. Join us as we speak with guests from all around the world who were brought together to created cherished moments onboard Rocky Mountaineer.

On our first departure of the year, Melissa, along with 13 other members of her family travelled all the way from Sydney, Australia to celebrate two special milestones. We caught up with Melissa to find out what special occasions they were celebrating and what some of their favourite moments were from their journey.

Tell us a bit about yourselves.

This was a long awaited/one year in the making family holiday. We were a family of 14 across three generations ranging from six years of age to 86 years of age.

What made you choose a Rocky Mountaineer journey?

It was my father’s dream to see the Canadian Rockies. He has always wanted to go so we surprised him for a birthday gift. He was so overcome with emotion.

Melissa’s father and her nephew were our guests of honour to be the first of the season to ring our “All Aboard!” train horn, alongside a bagpipe salute, welcoming all our guests onboard.

Did you have any special moments while on your journey?

We had many, many special moments. We celebrated two family birthdays during our trip – my Dad’s 86th and my nephew’s 6th birthday. It was also the first time the whole family had been on a big trip like this together.

What were some of your favourite things you saw while onboard?

We loved the various terrain and change of season we experienced. We never got bored.

What were some of your favourite things while you were in our destinations?

We absolutely loved Lake Louise. The Fairmont was absolutely beautiful, and we felt like royalty staying there.

What is your favourite memory from your journey?

When John Denver’s Rocky Mountain High was played as we enjoyed the view of the Rocky Mountains. Dad is a big John Denver fan so that song being played made us all teary!

As Melissa and her family’s journey came to an end, it became evident that this milestone celebration was more than just a trip; it was a journey of strengthening bonds as they watched landscapes blur into memories. Through shared experiences in new places, they not only created cherished moments but also laid the foundation for countless more adventures ahead. As they returned home, we'd like to imagine their hearts were fuller, their connections stronger, and their spirits lifted by the reminder that the greatest milestones are those celebrated together.
